w/ AVS“Roland made the impossible possible!”
Avs is a multi-talented creative who I’ve recently had the delight of working with. She’s an incredible DJ (I have first-hand experience) but also a VERY talented graphic designer. We initially found each other on social media through mutual friends and admiration of each other’s art and as often happens, discussed organising a shoot for many months.
When Avs was ready to get the shoot booked in I scheduled a call with her to discuss how she wanted her images to feel and what she wanted them to portray.
The key points I took from the call was that:
She wanted to ensure her visuals would have her taken seriously as a professional DJ and represented her level of expertise (in what is a male-dominated industry).
She wanted a strong image to use for her Press Pack, a one-page summary that artists use for their marketing.
She was incredibly nervous about being in front of the camera and being the centre of attention.

These discussions provide so much value in allowing me to plan how I might want to light the talent and compose the image. But almost, more importantly, the client can get a feel for my energy and personality allowing them to be more relaxed when we get to shoot day.
It is hugely important to me that my clients are relaxed for a shoot and it is almost a non-negotiable in my process.
The steps we took for this shoot resulted in us getting more high-quality photos than we discussed and Avs purchasing several additional photos.
