EDUCATION“People you’d want to be friends with”

Each week, Reuben Green hosts a live band featuring Ruby Francis, Creature & Sheba Q, reworking the finest sounds of jungle, broken beat, UKG, funky, grime & beyond.
As with any event in London marketing is incredibly important so Reuben and I discussed his ideas of some promotional imagery.
We wanted the band to look approachable, fun and cool (they definitely are) - “people you’d want to be friends with”. To achieve this, the vibe we created in the studio had to genuinely bring this energy out of everyone to really be successful. Reuben and I made sure everyone was comfortable - sometimes it just takes a coffee, a chinwag and an incredible playlist to allow people to find that comfort before we get to work.
In comparison to individual portraits, group shots introduces a number of challenges for a photographer, such as:
Correctly lighting/exposing different skin tones;
Ensuring everyone is in focus to not divert focus away from or to any single person in particular (unless intentionally);
And of course, capturing moments when everyone looks fantastic! One person blinking can make or break what could be an almost perfect photograph 😅
Unedited Photo, Straight out of Camera (SooC)
In addition to the above, we didn’t have a backdrop in the colour of choice so more work needed to be done in post-production to achieve the warm mustard colour that we wanted.
In the end we had an incredibly fun session and captured the band in all their glory capturing some of my favourite shots of the season.
I’ve also had the pleasure of attending a few of the events by Dancefloor Education as both a lover of music and a photographer which has allowed me to capture some imagery of the many talented musicians, dancers and music enthusiasts that attend their weekly event.
